KARL WAGNER PAINTINGS FOR SALE & BIOGRAPHY
Karl Wagner was born in Karlsruhe and attended the Fine Art Academy in Karlsruhe. His subjects ranged from portraits to landscapes and interiors; however he particularly specialized in military subjects, including scenes from the Franco-Prussian War and portraits of German princes. Karl Wagner’s best known painting, Bismarck at Versailles, depicting Bismarck, Favre and Thiers negotiating the Peace Treaty in 1871, was published as a widely available lithograph.
The artist’s daughter, Juliette Wagner (1868-1937) was also a painter, trained in Düsseldorf, the city in which Karl Wagner died in 1923.
