Painted in 1866. Corot visited his friend Bochard in Noisy-le-Grand, Seine-et-Oise during the summer of 1866 and painted five landscapes there [Robaut, 1905, vol. III, nos. 1365-1369].
The first owner of this painting, the artist André Julien Prévost, was a devoted student and friend of the artist. A sale of 37 works by Corot from Prévost's collection was held at Hôtel Drouot, Paris, on May 24, 1887.
