HENRY SCOTT
British, 1911–2005
BIOGRAPHY
Henry Scott was a marine artist profoundly influenced by the work of his older contemporary, Montague Dawson (1895-1973). Like Dawson, Scott specialized in depicting British and American clipper ships and exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists (from 1950 to 1966). His work was also shown at the Royal Exchange, the Guildhall Art Gallery, and the Museum of Maritime History in St. Malo. The artist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. During his career Scott earned the respect of many sailing captains and was made an honorary member of the “Cape Horners”, an international association of Master Mariners. Henry Scott was represented for much of his career by the London gallery MacConnal-Mason.
