BIOGRAPHY
Emil Fuchs was born in Vienna and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin.  He studied with Victor Tegner in Vienna and Ernst Herter in Berlin.  He was a sculptor and medalist before studying painting.  His early mentor was John Singer Sargent.  He became known for his portraits of high society in England and in the United States.  He moved permanently to New York during World War I and became an American citizen in 1924.   He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts as well as in Paris, receiving an honourable mention at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1907.
