ADELHEID DIETRICH

American, born 1827

BIOGRAPHY
Born in Wittenberg, Germany, Adelheid Dietrich was a student of her father, the painter Eduard Dietrich.  She is known for her flower and fruit paintings and her exceptional talent of capturing the details of her subject matter.   While living in Erfurt, Germany from 1850 to 1870, Dietrich contributed many of her fruit and flower pieces to a variety of German exhibitions.  After 1870 she started exhibiting in the United States, at the Brooklyn Art Association and in San Francisco.  Although she is regarded as one of the most skillful still-life artists of her time, only fifty known works of hers have been documented and not much is known of her life and time in the United States.  Her last recorded exhibition was in 1893 in San Francisco.
