Carl Balsgaard painted genre scenes, portraits, still lifes, flowers, and fruit. He studied at the Academy of Art in Copenhagen. He started his career painting genre scenes and portraits gradually becoming more interested in still lifes with flowers and fruit. Balsgaard became a member of the Copenhagen Academy of Art in 1858 and was also appointed conservator of King Christian IX’s private collection in 1864. Carl Balsgaard’s work is included in the collections of museums in Copenhagen, Bech, and Hamburg. |
