JACQUE AUGUSTE FAUGINET

BIOGRAPHY
The son of a wine merchant, Jacques-Auguste Fauginet was the student of Jacques-Édouard Gatteaux and entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1826. He made his official debut at the Salon in 1833 and obtained a second place medal at the Prix de Rome in 1831. Fauginet was sought after by patrons at the time mostly for his animal sculptures, particularly those of horses. 

Fauginet was a leading figure in Romantic sculpture in the nineteenth century; he exhibited pieces in plaster and bronze at the Salon of 1836 and highlighted the juxtaposition between man and animal by capturing moments of intensity in his work.
