BIOGRAPHY
This occasional artist painted under the pseudonym Paul van Ryssel. He studied medicine in Paris and formed close ties with Monet and Degas and was perhaps the first to purchase paintings from Cézanne. Van Gogh was in Dr. Gachet's care at the asylum in St. Remy in 1890 when he painted his famous Portrait of Dr. Gachet in a White Bonnet.
