Painted circa 1823-24. The Hon. Andrew Shirley describes this as an "enchanting sketch" in which "the moment of the day has been so perfectly seized that nothing more seems necessary to the composition" (Shirley, 1941, pp. 58-9).

This work is not included in Patrick Noon's Richard Parkes Bonington: The Complete Paintings (New Haven and London, 2008).
