This sculpture belongs to a series of female subjects made by Dalou between 1890 and 1900. It is the second of two slightly different versions of this composition and was cast by Susse Fres, Paris after 1902 in two sizes (heights 14cm and 35 cm), the present being a cast in the larger size.
